RECOVERY PROGRAM:

Residents will be required to attend 30 CR/AA/NA/CMA meetings their first 30 days in the house and obtain a CR/AA/NA/CMA sponsor in Hastings.  You will be asked to see your sponsor weekly.  You will also be asked to provide a signature card for all CR/AA/NA/CMA meetings attended.  After the first month, residents will be required to attend a minimum of 3 meetings per week. In order for you to continue to sustain a positive attitude during the job searching process you will be required to attend weekly individual sessions until you secure full-time employment.

 

COUNSELING/TREATMENT:

All residents must comply with a treatment/recovery program that was determined by one of the counselors at Horizon Recovery & Counseling Center prior to coming to the Unity Houses.  This program will be developed in consultation with probation/parole and primary treatment counselors. 

 

FEES:

Residents are asked to make a six month commitment to the house prior to being accepted.  Residents are required to pay their first month’s rent ($275 shared room/$375 private room), and $125 for their first month of aftercare.  One-on-one counseling is available at a reduced price.  $25 of your rent per month will be returned to you after you have completed your six-month commitment to the Unity Houses and you have completed your treatment program at Horizon Recovery & Counseling Center.

 

BUDGET/FINANCES:

Prior to entering the house all residents must pay their first month’s rent in advance.    Residents are required to be responsible with their finances and pay all bills on time.  If child support is owed it is a priority and must be paid as scheduled.  You may be asked to provide proof of your income with your most recent paystub anytime while you are living in the Unity Houses.  Loaning money to other residents is not allowed.  Rent is to be paid by the 5th of each month.  Being late on rent may result in a loss of either/or overnight passes, cell phone privileges, an early curfew or a late fee charge of $25.  In order to maintain your house privileges, treatment payments must be kept current at Horizon Recovery & Counseling Center.  Not paying your rent may result in dismissal from the house.   

 

CURFEW:

When a resident enters the house curfew will be 10 pm every night. When a resident obtains full-time employment, an CR/AA/NA/CMA sponsor and if there are no house violations, curfew will be moved to 11pm Sun-Thurs and 1am on Friday and Saturday nights.

 

GUESTS:

Resident’s must have their visitors list pre-approved by the house manager.  This list will include sponsors, probation/parole officers, law enforcement and family from out of town.  Approved and Invited guests are allowed only after the evening meal from 7-10 pm and must be accompanied by a resident.  Guests are allowed only in the common area on the main floor.  Family visitation is also allowed on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

 

EXIT PROCEDURES: 

Residents must provide written notice of leaving to the house manager at least 30 days in advance of their departure.  Prior to leaving the house rooms must be cleaned, bedding or house belongings must be washed, and the house key must be checked in with the house manager.

 

EVICTION:

Residents who are asked to leave because of a house violation must do so within 5 minutes.  Personal items belonging to residents, who are asked to leave, will be boxed up and stored.  The resident will have 72 hours to contact the house manager and make arrangement to get their personal belongings.  Items not picked up within 7 days will be given to a charitable organization.  Anyone leaving the house without proper notice will lose the remainder of the month’s rent.  The eviction period from the house will be between 7-14 days.  If you are evicted from the house, you must make an appointment with the house manager to attend a house meeting.  During this house meeting, consequences and a plan will be written for you to reenter the house if the house residents agree to allow you to reenter.  If the house residents agree for you not to reenter, you will not be allowed to reenter the house. If you are evicted from the house a second time, you will not be allowed to reenter the house unless you graduate from an inpatient program.   

 

EMPLOYMENT:

Residents are required to obtain full-time day employment or a school/work equivalent to full-time employment (40 hours per week) within their first two weeks.  If full-time employment is not obtained, residents will be required to volunteer from 1 PM. – 4 PM.  Monday - Friday in the community as approved by the house manager.  In the morning hours, 8 AM. – 12 PM. a resident must complete 5 applications per day until employment is obtained. 

 

HOUSE MEETING:

A mandatory attendance is required at the weekly house meeting.  This meeting will take place at a time designated by the house residents and house manager.   

 

LEGAL VIOLATIONS:

Residents must comply with all orders of probation, parole and drug court.  Any resident, who is involved in a law violation, while living in the house, must report the violation immediately to their house manager.   

 

OVERNIGHT PASSES:

The first 30 days, you are not allowed to leave the city limits of Hastings unless you have approval from your house manager..  After the first 30 days, and if a resident's rent and treatment bills are current they may request, in writing, an overnight pass to visit family or selected friends. Overnight passes may be granted by the group at the weekly house meeting.  Requests for an overnight pass must be submitted at least 48 hours in advance of the weekly house meeting and must comply with any travel restrictions or requirements by their probation or parole officer.  Approval of this pass depends on the other residents believing this visit is supportive of recovery and a relapse prevention plan for the trip has been submitted to the group.  Travel passes for court appearances are a separate issue and will be dealt with on an individual basis but must also be requested in advance and a travel plan approved by the house residents.

 

HOUSE CHORES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

All clients are required to participate in keeping the residence clean and sanitary.  House chores will be assigned at the weekly house meeting. 

 

PERSONAL HYGIENE:

Keeping the house clean and tidy is a responsibility of the residents.  This includes keeping laundry, dishes etc. done, personal rooms clean and beds made appropriately.

 

SPECIAL CONTRACTS: Violation of house expectations and boundaries may result in a resident being placed on a special contract at the weekly house meeting.

 

PERSONAL SPACE:

A resident's room is considered their personal space; other residents are not to be in another resident's room without the resident of that room present.  Residents are also not to be in a Unity House that they are not a resident of unless a resident of that house is present and has invited them to visit.

 

 

AUTOMOBILES:

Residents are allowed one automobile.  The car must be operable, insured, tags must be current and the resident must have a valid driver's license.  We require copies of all the above to be put in your file.  Vehicles must be parked in designated areas only. Auto repairs are not allowed on the premises.

 

DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENING:

Alcohol or other drug use or possession of alcohol/drugs or mood altering substances of any kind are not acceptable for any resident of the houses.   Anyone who is aware of another resident's alcohol/drug or mood altering substances use, must convey this information to the house manager.

Residents are required to submit to a drug or alcohol screening upon request.  Refusal to submit will be considered a positive result and the resident will be asked to vacate the premises immediately. 

 

MEDICATIONS:

Residents who are taking prescribed medications are required to take them as prescribed. Any misuse of their prescription may result in dismissal from the house. All approved medications must be stored in their lock box.

 

PHONE CALLS:

A phone is provided for local calls only; long distance calls must be made using a calling card.  Residents must respect each other’s need to use the phone and adjust their time accordingly.  Residents are allowed to have a personal cell phone as long as they remain current with their rent and treatment financial obligations or not complying with other expectations. 

 

PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIALS:  

Pornographic material is not allowed in the house or on computers on the property.

 

POSSESSION OF WEAPONS:

Weapons of any kind are not allowed on the premises. 

 

SMOKING:

Tobacco use is allowed outside the house only (this includes chewing tobacco).  Burning candles, incense, or any other material in the house is a safety issue and is not allowed.

 

THREATENING/AGGRESSIVE OR VIOLENT BEHAVIOR:

Threatening, aggressive, or violent behavior will not be tolerated.

 

GAMBLING/LOCATIONS WHO DISTRIBUTE ALCOHOL:

Gambling of any kind is not allowed.  Residents are to remain out of all gambling or liquor establishments, bars or strip club.
